Today was the Washington State Mathematics Council Math Olympiad. West Woodland fielded eight 5th grade teams of a field of 20 teams in all from our local area. Perhaps the home field advantage was at play, as the girls crushed it! Nikola’s team (also including Siena, Jane, and Willa) managed a perfect score on the long problem and did great on the short problems, where they only lost a half point for forgetting to note the proper units (remember the NASA Mars probe that failed due to a units error!). Apparently, this score was unprecedented in Math Olympiad history.
Great job, girls!
