We’re in midsommar, so the late garden update. Took a trip to Sky Nursery in the first week of May, when we received a mailer that new starts were in. There was an abundance of starts, even cucamelons! Sadly, no Snow Whites. But we found many interesting other plants. For a relatively small garden space, …

Garden 2022 recap
Season has come to an end. Here’s the breakdown of how we performed: TOMATOESAnanas noire (3) – prolific this year. Snow white (1) – very branchy. Nice citrus smell and flavor. Whitish yellow when ripe. Quite tasty. Will try again. Black krim (1) – very hefty this year. Orange amana (1) – reasonably good, but …

Nikola’s new project
Nikola found a cool RGB keyboard and mouse combo at Goodwill. She disassembled it, cleaned the whole thing, then got the whole thing back together (which is not always the easiest thing with mechanical keyboards). How far we’ve come. This is Nikola at age 6, building electronics kits in the basement.

Chonker bee!
We’ve been watching the coming and goings of our little pollinators. Some are not so little. There is a really chubby bumblebee (or many of them) who has been enjoying the flowers. Although he is too big to fit in some of them, so he sticks to the sunflowers and lavender. This is a little …

Hike!
Alton and I went on a 22 mile hike this weekend. Started at 06:45 where our 3 scouts joined about 12 others (from the much larger Troop 100) for the trek to the Palouse to Cascades Trail. The trail is a gentle downhill incline that was a converted from an old rail line. The first …

Garden 2021!
The weather is warm enough to plant. The nurseries are open (didn’t do the Tilth sale this year because it was being held downtown and their selection was pretty limited). Last year I had let the sunflowers run rampant to bring people some joy during lockdown, but it didn’t leave much room for veg, as …

Quarantine garden!
There was no Tilth sale and nurseries were very limited this year due to quarantine, so I didn’t get much in the way of starts. Fortunately(?), we had numerous volunteer sunflowers growing out of the beds. Since everyone seems to love sunflowers, I figured we would just cultivate those to be something everyone can enjoy …

Game night in quarantine!
Back in normal times, we would get together with Susan and Monse from time to time for dinner and game night. We would usually play Apples to Apples, (although I keep lobbying to play Carcassonne or Dominion or try out Netrunner, and Nikola wants to do Cards Against Humanity). Obviously, card and board games doesn’t …
