Season has come to an end. Here’s the breakdown of how we performed:
TOMATOES
Ananas noire (3) – prolific this year.
Snow white (1) – very branchy. Nice citrus smell and flavor. Whitish yellow when ripe. Quite tasty. Will try again.
Black krim (1) – very hefty this year.
Orange amana (1) – reasonably good, but not earth shattering.
Sungold (2) – did well enough. Nice flavor.
Sweet 100 (2) – pretty spindly. Not much fruit.
CUCUMBERS
Lemon – Very productive this year. Trained over a trellis and along some twine. Trimmed out the yellowed leaves to give access to our pollinators.
Marketmore – Trained to grow over the edge of the planter box, and over a trellis outside the box. Very leafy but not a lot of fruit.
Tendergreen – Early flowers. Training up cane trellis. Not super prolific but very nice texture (like a Persian cucumber) and flavor.
BUSH BEANS
Jade bush bean – Good production
Purple bush bean – Nice purple beans. Turned kind of purple green when steamed. Flavor was ok, but not amazing.
Celine bush bean – Smilar to the purple bush. Slightly better tender flavor.
PUMPKIN(S)
Wee B Little (2) – 1-1/2 total pumpkins. Doesn’t sprawl.
EGGPLANT
Potblack – Likes lots and lots of water. But ultimately stalled out and no edible fruit.
RASPBERRIES
Used thin bamboo stakes to keep the canes mostly vertical. Then thick stakes at the corners to encourage containment.
