Hike!

Alton and I went on a 22 mile hike this weekend. Started at 06:45 where our 3 scouts joined about 12 others (from the much larger Troop 100) for the trek to the Palouse to Cascades Trail. The trail is a gentle downhill incline that was a converted from an old rail line.

The first 2 miles pass through a dark tunnel (headlights required!), then opens to a wide open multi-use trail. We passed (or were passed by) many groups of bicyclists.

The group of 15 scouts and 7 adults made our way at about 2.0-2.5 miles each 50 mins followed by a 15 min break. The trail crossed 3 trestle bridges over rivers and creeks below. The air temp was in the 70s and we had nice shade cover for nearly the whole way.

It was a long day (got home after 11 pm) and we were pretty sore, but it was quite an accomplishment for Alton. Takes care of the long 20 mile hike requirement for the Scout hiking merit badge.
