Letterboxing!

We seem to be doing a lot of weekend activities on Mercer Island. Through the summer, Pioneer Park has several letterboxing trails. You first pick up the trail books at their community center (although they also seem to have them available at the trailheads), then follow the clues to each of the hidden locations.

The stamp pads and log books were tucked away in tree stumps and other little hidey holes. No GPS required. It wasn’t too difficult to locate each of the “treasures”, so the frustration level remained quite low. There was some parkland education involved. But in general, the kids just liked the discovery aspect. We worked through about 1/3 of the trail before the kids had to pee and complained they were hungry, so that was that. Fortunately, the trailhead was just across the street from a Starbucks and QFC.
