Thanksgiving on Camano!

We convened on Camano Island for Thanksgiving dinner this year. Popo and Gung gung have been were staying for the week. Also joining us were our friends the Richardsons (Grace, Anna, Laura, and David) and Eckert-Sidman-Mariscals (Susan & Monse). The kids had a great time playing together, even though the ratio was 4:1 girls to boys. The younger kids, Alton and Anna, occupied themselves mostly with building Lego, while the older girls ran around in the play room structures. The grown-up folks occupied themselves with preparing the foodstuffs. Gung gung put out a sampling of his smoked salmon and trout, for snacking until the bird was done. We brought a Trader Joe’s brined turkey, and roast it Good Eats style (30 mins at 500°, then about 2.5 hours at 350°), which came out just about right. Although 20 pounds of bird were way too much for dinner (lots of leftover turkey!). Like her daddy, Nikola really likes Stove Top stuffing and Ocean Spray cranberry jelly in the shape of a can. Susan brought at huge salad and Laura brought a pear tart. Mom and Shaynee are avoiding gluten, so mom made “Chinese stuffing”, which ended up being a very yummy homemade jung.

We had an early semi-Christmas (on Black Friday), where the kids opened presents from Popo Gung gung. The kids listened to more audiobooks on the way home. iPad + audiobook + headphone splitter + 2 headphones = awesome! (note sleeping children).
