Nikola’s jellyfish:
- 1x clear umbrella.
- 8x strips of bubble wrap, partially popped.
- 32x blue glow sticks ($12/100-ct on Amazon!).
- 2x blue optic fiber glowing hair clips.
- 1x white leotard.
- 1 pair silvery boots.
Alton’s costume:
- 1x Clone trooper.
- Alterations to the waist, legs.
At the Arc School Halloween Bash, Nikola’s jellyfish won first prize in the costume contest. We did some trick-or-treating in the Ballard shops. The costume also got a lot of attention and compliments. Although I think that the added attention was stressful for Nikola. Still, she has (rightfully so) decided that homemade costumes are awesome and has already started planning for the upcoming two years. For 2014 she would like to be a tornado, with little barn animals poking out of the twister. In 2015, she would like to go as π. No details yet on what that will entail.
And we had Minion Pumpkins! Well I only had time for 3, but they turned out well. Googles were bottle tops wrapped in aluminum foil and I taped in printouts of the minion eyes. It was supposed to rain, so I used a layer of mailing tape to keep away the moisture. Fortunately, it didn’t rain until after the trick-or-treating. And by morning, the eye ink was all runny.

I wanted to make these guys earlier, but prior experience has taught me that carving pumpkins early (more than a few days) results in moldy melty pumpkins that get their faces eaten off by the neighborhood wildlife.
