Took our annual trip to Jetty Island today. It was a much bigger outing than usual. Also present were Donna & Siena & Brodie, and Julie & Connor, and neighbors Dara & Lola & a couple of their friends. The ferry loads have been cut back from 80 to 60 people, which really reduced the population on the beach. However, having a party of 8 or more allows you to make reservations (even if everyone doesn’t show up). This is great if you are in a part of a big party, but makes it tough to get a spot if you aren’t.
We hiked north a bit and set up camp near some large driftwood tree trunks. The kids love using these as the foundation for building a fort. Or in this case, a bakery.

There were some awkward moments with three distinct social clusters of kids, but everyone eventually managed to navigate. Brodie and Alton found some good driftwood “blasters”, because pretty much everything is construed as a blaster. Connor was the only older boy. But he was the guy with the inflatable raft.

The kids had a great time. The parents (well, mommies) had wine and cocktails. Toward the late afternoon, a whole army of kite surfers took to the beach (waiting for us to leave because I think we had chosen the primo stretch of the beach). But the kids were pretty fascinated by watching them set up their gear.
