Easter Sunday, and the kids have had quite an extravaganza leading up to it. We took a trip to the “Triple T” (Top Ten Toys) early in the week, which is always an adventure. Although, really, they just tend to play at the train table or sit in the big wicker couch and look at books. It is a great place to pick up things like stickers, marbles, squeeze rockets, etc. for their Easter baskets.
Of course, what week wouldn’t be complete with an evening dance party. While these tend to be an 80’s Dance Party when Shaynee is at her evening school board meetings and T is left to his own devices, this was a fairy dance party. What constitutes fairy dance music, you might ask? Bagpipes, of course! (what would we do without internet radio?)

Saturday started with gymnastics class for both kids (which is still dad-corralling-Alton class), followed by Easter trick-or-treating(?) at the Country Village plaza in Bothell. Nikola and Shaynee went to practically every store for Easter goodies. Alton was distracted by the train caboose and tugboat replica, so he and I didn’t get very far. The chickens and ducks provided to be fascinating for him, too. Afterward, Nikola was off to a birthday party at the Pacific Science Center while Alton wandered around the Seattle Center, watching the music fountain display, and following the grounds staff and their little trucks. Also, the Duck tour makes a stop there, so Alton was fascinated by amphibious vehicles. After naps, it was time for the eggs!
Egg dyeing has always been a favorite pastime for S & T, and the kids must have inherited this trait. (autosomal dominant?) We got the usual Pas egg dyeing kit, although Shaynee also found some “natural” egg dyes from the organic (or rather, less inorganic) market, drmatically marked down in price due to the fact that the original sell-by date was in 2008, although a newer label on the package said 2013. Hm, that’s a pretty broad margin of error. The kids had a lot of fun with it. Though it looks it, it wasn’t complete naked egg-dyeing. The shirts became casualties of dye very early on.

This morning kicked off by going to visit friends (Pacifica & Issei, & Mai & Sean) for brunch and egg hunting. More dancing followed, with the kids performing an Easter adaptation of The Nutcracker Suite (Paci is quite into ballet right now). Nikola and Alton were just as interested in following their chickens that they keep as they were looking for painted eggs (the city permits a small number of chickens per household for eggs).

Then back home for Easter egg hunting at home. Alton is “getting it” a lot more than he did this time last year, but his attention span is still that of a 2-year-old. Of course, once he found something good, he tends to forget about finding anything else (while his sister steams around picking off all of the eggs). Of course, the main order of the day was to make sure that none of the real eggs that were hidden were all accounted for. Alton and mommy took much-needed naps, and Nikola and daddy read books and built Lego® quietly. As in previous years, Nikola enjoyed hiding things for Alton and her parents for the rest of the afternoon.

The kids had a blast playing with the bubble blasters that Gramps and Grandma sent them. Although the gusty winds we’ve had all weekend made it challenging to keep the bubbles around. It was enough to keep them amused for quite a while.
