This weekend was Nikola’s birthday weekend. The gramps and grandma arrived for the festivities. Mom and grandma helped put together the favor bags (tiara, light-up bouncy ball, vanilla milk, necklace/headband, stickers), with each wrapped with a flower bow.
Of course, in the meantime, the kids got a story from gramps.

The big party was at “Moonpaper Tent”, a venue that creates “unique, theatrical, and art based experiences” for kids. They hold art and drama camps and workshops and performances throughout the year, but also host parties of pretty much any theme you can think of — pirates, princess, magic forest, superheroes, rockstars and divas, wizards, outer space…

Nikola wanted a “fairy” theme, so the space was decorated in sparkly tulle-y goodness. The girls (and it was an all-girls party) started off by choosing fancy dress and fairy wings (there was only one, or maybe two, conflicts over fairy wings). Then they engaged the girls and created a storyline (it was sort of like a live version of Mad Libs) that involved fairies and magic and butterflies.

Grace and Sidney (from our PEPS group) had a good time. From the PNPC preschool were Anna, Pacifica, Lauren, Alex, Grace, Zoe, Georgia, and Stella. Sidney ended up not getting the pair of fairy wings that she wanted, but decided she was a magic fairy who didn’t need wings to fly (great job, Sidney!).

Nikola loves the idea of maps and hiding things, so they all made maps, then incorporated them into the story.

After exploring every potted plant and rock in Moonpaper Tent’s little space, they went on a search for some hidden treasure, then concluded their story by flying back to Seattle.

Shaynee had baked a cake and butterfly cupcakes for the kids (and any of the adults who had wanted to stick around). Needless to say, we had a lot of frosted goodies to bring home after the party.

The girls opened their goodie bags after the cupcakes (and before their parents arrived), although Shaynee was hoping this part would happen after they left. As a result, there was some conflict over lost tiaras and marbles, and the departure was dragged out somewhat. But in the end, everyone seemed to have a good time.
After the party, Alton finally got a much needed nap. Nikola and Alton wanted pizza for dinner (yay, Stacia’s!). Then, the opening of presents. A fun and full day.
