Happy Birthday, Nikola!

Nikola turned 5 today. Of course, we didn’t get much sleep last night as Alton had a massive throw up so we took turns cleaning up while we decorated the play room. Shaynee bought some very cute paper lanterns, which we strung across the room. Then we finished with the little woodsy decals we’ve been meaning to put up for the past year (but have been concerned that Alton would just peel them off the walls). It looked pretty good. I got to put up the mystery robot decals, too.

She has been talking about this birthday for a while, so she was pretty excited to dig into the presents this morning. The big present, a scooter, is still en route. But they were both pretty excited about the “zhu zhu pets” (animatronic hamsters) we got them (2).

After we ate (and it was a light breakfast of Saltines for Alton, as we didn’t know how his stomach was doing quite yet), we went to the zoo. Despite the forecast being stormy and rainy, it was quite a beautiful day, clear and in the 50’s. Nikola’s favorite is the “Night and Day” exhibit, with the lemurs, banded armadillos, and bats. Alton seemed fairly drawn to the tortoises, and any opportunity to break loose. They both had fun feeding the birds in the Willawong. Nikola, of course, wanted to ride the carousel. Alton is still very wary of carousels.
