Nikola laughed out loud for the first time today! What an amazing sound. She was in the thrall of smiling from a game of wipe off the lips and then burst out in four or five hearty laughs. I believe her eyes are completely brown now.
Yesterday she met Great Auntie Darien and Auntie Alison when we all got together for dinner. She was amazingly easy to have with us at the restaurant–she slept for the first hour and fifteen minutes or so and when she awoke, she was content to sit or stand on someone’s lap while she took in everything around her. The introduction to so many new people at once was a little overwhelming, and her social smile was scarcely seen. But she didn’t seem too frightened, mainly wary and intent on keeping Mom or Dad in her sight at all times.
We managed to trick her into some tummy time today by having her on my chest while I reclined most of the way on the couch. We’ve done this before and it hasn’t gone over terribly well, but today she held her head up well and was actually fairly happy throughout the ordeal. Yesterday she also discovered an interesting facial expression that involves puffing up the cheeks and pursing the lips, as if to spit a stream of water at the onlooker. We’re not sure where this came from or what prompted it, but she was doing it often.
