Drive crash!

Catastrophic hard drive failures happen. I have had one laptop drive go bad, although I don’t recall the brand. The Snider home laptop suddenly started throwing SMART errors and I could tell that it was sticking and freezing up (not a good thing for something that rotates at 5400 RPM). Thankfully, the other year they …

Jedi Island 2013 (episode 1)!

Took our annual trip to Jetty Island today. It was a much bigger outing than usual. Also present were Donna & Siena & Brodie, and Julie & Connor, and neighbors Dara & Lola & a couple of their friends. The ferry loads have been cut back from 80 to 60 people, which really reduced the …

Graffiti!

We were tagged by some graffiti this weekend, if you can call it that. I suppose a chalk scrawl on our planter box proclaiming it to be the “#1 garden ❤” probably doesn’t count as serious graffiti. Shaynee and the kids all deny writing it. Our neighbor Doug thinks we should be due some farm …

Garden update!

Planting is complete. The oldest carrots and beets have had a good 6 weeks (planted in the Plantstravaganza on 4/28). The weather has been pretty cloudy and cool (except for the past week, which has been fairly idyllic. The sparrows decimated the early beet and cucumber shoots, as well as finding my shallow sunflower seeds. …

Blastoff!

Today was the inaugural launch of the Taser rocket from Alton’s birthday. It has been a pretty drawn out process. During the fall and winter months, the air was too cool and moist for the glue to set and for the last several months the weather hasn’t exactly been conducive to a rocket launch. We …

Plantstravaganza 2013!

Garden Plantstravaganza 2013 is near complete. The front planter boxes are pretty much spoken for. Still saving space in Box 1 for green beans and a magical jack-o-lantern pumpkin. Bought medium size bark from Lowe’s (they do not seem to have med sized at Home Depot). As everyone in Seattle is doing the same thing …

Mixed media!

Somehow, Alton always manages to find a good patch of dirt to play in, no matter where he goes. Earlier today: Shaynee: Alton, dirt is your medium. Alton: And my top is chocolate cake! Alton: … And my bottom, well that’s just air.

Spring Dance 2013!

Today was the final performance of Arc School’s Spring Dance production. Gramps and Grandma were visiting and got to see the show. Alton actually sat relatively still for most of it (relatively speaking), although he still had so many questions to ask. The second act was set to “Carnival of the Animals” by Saint-Saëns, which …

Dynamite!

…the “Leaping Leopards”…[were] a hit. At this year’s “West Woodland’s Got Talent” (only reinforcing poor grammar at the elementary school level, à la Got Milk?), Nikola and her friends Siena and Parker were the “Leaping Leopards”. Their 1:15 minute jump rope routine to Taio Cruz’s “Dynamite” was a hit. Daddy got to pull out his mad …

Technological failure!

Everything seemed doomed to fail today. Alton and Nikola wanted to play “pod racers” (actually, WipeOutHD) which they did for just a short while. Then the screen blinked and went black and the power LED just blinked at me. Blink…blink…blink… No other response. I unplugged the device and let it rest for several hours. Same …
